Full Description

BACKGROUND: AHEAD is an independent non-profit organisation working to create inclusive environments in education and employment for people with disabilities. The main focus of its work is further education and training, higher education and graduate employment.

AHEAD provides information to students and graduates with disabilities, teachers, guidance counsellors and parents on disability issues in education. It undertakes national research relating to the inclusion of students with disabilities, contribute to national policy forums and provide professional development opportunities to develop the capacity of staff in FET and higher education to be more inclusive.

Willing Able Mentoring (WAM) is a work placement programme run by AHEAD which aims to promote access to the labour market for graduates with disabilities and build the capacity of employers to integrate disability into the mainstream workplace. This is done through encouraging employers to create internships for graduates with disabilities and facilitating the placement of those graduates.

AHEAD is now recruiting a Senior WAM Project Officer to join its team.

THE ROLE: The Senior WAM Project Officer will participate in a diverse range of activities including engaging with stakeholders, organising and managing employer training events both on and offline, and contributing to and developing best practice guidelines for inclusive recruitment.

This role would suit somebody with a proven ability to communicate messages effectively in a variety of contexts, e.g. presenting at events, delivering training, and facilitating meetings, and a demonstrable background and knowledge of issues concerning disability and the workplace, assistive technology, etc.

The successful candidate will be an honest and reliable professional with a willingness to support colleagues during busy periods, and the ability to work on their own initiative to identify and achieve improvements. You should have good IT skills including database management (Excel), word processing and associated report formatting, and, ideally, knowledge of content management systems such as Mailchimp and WordPress. Previous experience of conducting needs assessments with people with disabilities in order to determine support requirements would be a distinct advantage.

If you’re a team-player with a genuine interest in AHEAD’s mission, experience building and managing relationships with a variety of stakeholders, strong organisational skills, and an understanding of event coordination, we’d love to hear from you!

HOW TO APPLY: Please email [email protected] for the full job description, candidate information pack, and application details for this role. Please use the job title and name of the organisation you’re interested in as the subject of your email.
