About An Taisce


Established in June 1948, An Taisce is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) active in the areas of the environment and built heritage in Ireland. It considers itself the oldest environmental and non-governmental organisation in Ireland. 


An Taisce is a membership organisation and charity, not a state or semi-state organisation. However, it receives government funding for specific programmes, such as Blue Flag beaches, Green Schools and the annual National Spring Clean, and it has a statutory role in certain planning and environmental processes in the country.


About the Role


The Education Unit is a component of An Taisce with over 80 members of staff. The Director of the unit reports to the CEO.

Main Duties and Responsibilities 


Lead the development and implementation of the Education Unit’s strategy


Ensure that the Unit is adequately resourced and organised to meet all operational needs


Maintain effective internal controls and management systems

Establish and maintain high standards of ethical and social responsibility


Keep the CEO and the Board of An Taisce, as appropriate, informed of all matters relating to the Unit so as to enable informed decisions to be made


Communicate effectively with the Unit’s employees, stakeholders and the public


Ensure there is coordination with other units of An Taisce in any calls for submissions by Government Departments


Ensure the integrity of all public statements by the Unit

Liaise with the CEO & Board, attending meetings, including Board meetings, where necessary


Manage HR and Child Protection Policies and Procedure

Ensure compliance with all legislative requirements, develop and maintain control systems, environmental, health and safety policies, and the risk register to the highest standards
